Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the prevention and treatment of parasitic diseases in China have accumulated rich experience and are greatly improved. However, there is still a big gap regarding the prevention and control of parasitic diseases between the Western China and the developed regions. With the continuous promotion of “the Belt and Road (B&R)” initiative in recent years, the Western China functions as a new open door to the outside world, imported parasitic diseases from the countries along “the B&R” have increasingly become a new challenge for the prevention and control of parasitic diseases in Western China. How to minimize the risk of imported parasitic diseases spreading in China while expanding open-up is an urgent issue to deal with public health emergencies. In order to explore the risk of parasitic diseases spreading during “the B&R” initiative, the epidemic characteristics and potential risk of parasitic diseases in the countries along “the B&R” are briefly reviewed in this paper, with a view to providing references and suggestions for an efficient mechanism for the prevention and treatment of parasitic diseases in China.
