Bordetella holmesii (B. holmesii) can cause pertussis-like respiratory tract infections and some invasive infections, including bacteremia, pneumonia, meningitis, endocarditis, pericarditis and arthritis. Due to the absence of specific diagnostic test for B. holmesii, clinical respiratory symptoms caused by B. holmesii are often misdiagnosed as pertussis. In addition, few epidemiological studies on B. holmesii are available, so the awareness of B. holmesii infections is generally insufficient, and there are no related guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment. In this study, the latest research progress on B. holmesii and the resultant infections is briefly introduced, including microbiological etiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment. |
